Antique fayence jug with zinc lid and thumb press, of ceramic (keramik) and pewter (zinn) from Germany, dating to around 1750–1800 and 1800–1850, in good condition with minor aging signs; dimensions 19 cm high, 8.7 cm wide, 13.5 cm deep and 610 g weight.
Description from the seller
Faience barrel-shaped jug with decoration in blue, yellow, green and violet and tin lid with a thumb press.
According to AI, based on the tin marks in the lid interior (see photo), the jug probably dates from the 18th or early 19th century. Two of the marks show the number 1797 (or 1792?). Such jugs were produced at that time in Saxony and Thuringia. The lid bears the inscription "H.H.C.K. No 45".
The jug has a crack in the upper area as well as a chip on the underside. The rim on which the lid sits shows obvious signs of wear. The hinge of the lid is loose, so it does not always sit straight on the jug. At the top of the lid there is a light spot. - see photos - If the jug is empty, it tips with the lid open, so it is only partially usable.
