Description from the seller
Splendid Neo-Rococo Silver Sauce Tureen with Vermeil Interior
For sale is an exceptionally opulent and intricately worked sauce tureen made of solid 800 silver, crafted in the late Historicism period (Neo-Rococo) between 1880 and 1920.
Design & Execution:
The piece captivates with its lavish, plastically modeled relief. The walls of the bowl and the edge of the presentation stand are richly decorated with classical rocaille motifs, flowing C-scrolls, and floral designs. Notably, the masterfully pierced, asymmetric rim design of the bowl gives the historicizing draft a wonderful dynamism and lightness.
Special Quality Feature:
The sauce tureen and its accompanying saucer are traditionally fastened together with an original bottom screw. This guarantees absolute stability on the grand table. The interior of the bowl features an excellently preserved, intensely radiant interior gilding (vermeil). Historically, this not only served the luxurious appearance but also effectively protected the silver from the aggressive acids of foods.
Dimensions & Details:
• Total weight: approx. 282 grams
• Dimensions of the saucer: approx. 18.8 cm x 12.0 cm x 1.0 cm
• Dimensions of the sauce tureen: approx. 13.0 cm x 13.0 cm (including handle) x 9.0 cm
• Hallmark: Stamped with the fineness mark “800” on the footrim of the bowl
