Hispania Tota is a 59 by 43 cm facsimile artistic map of the Iberian Peninsula by Claudio Tolomeo, limited to 149 numbered copies with gold-leaf relief decorations, in excellent condition and sold without a frame.
Description from the seller
Artistic reproduction of the Tolenmaic chart of the Iberian Peninsula, taken from Claudius Ptolemy’s Cosmographia and derived from the Pluteo 30.3 manuscript of the Laurenziana Library in Florence. Limited numbered edition, frame-free, with embossed gold leaf decorations.
Splendid chart of the Iberian Peninsula according to the cartographic tradition of Claudius Ptolemy, depicting ancient Hispania with the territory of present-day Spain and Portugal, the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts, the Balearic Islands and the sea indicated in the plate as Balearicus Pelagus.
The plate is taken from Claudius Ptolemy’s Cosmographia and is inspired by the Pluteo 30.3 manuscript, kept at the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana in Florence, one of the most important witnesses of the Renaissance Ptolemaic geographical tradition.
The work shows strong decorative and collectible qualities: seas in intense blue, relief mountains, ancient toponyms, coastal profiles, cartographic border and ornamental details. The embossed gold leaf decorations enhance the plate and increase its visual impact, making it suitable for both a private collection and display in a study, library, or representative environment.
This is the Free version, offered without a frame, to leave full freedom in choosing the most suitable display solution according to one’s taste.
Each copy belongs to a numbered limited edition of 149 copies and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity / colophon with the work’s number.
