Description from the seller

Rare French hand stereoscope from circa 1893, made in dark polished wood with brass details. On the brass plaque it reads “11 April 1893.” This compact optical instrument is designed for glass stereoscopic slides and still contains one original stereoscopic slide card with a Mediterranean coastal scene in sepia.

The model features an elegantly curved wooden body, an extendable brass focus mechanism, and large eyecups for a clear and comfortable 3D image. On top there is a hinged wooden flap that covers the viewing opening and the matte glass screen to protect against stray light. Focusing works via a ribbed knob on the side, and the original wooden slide moves smoothly in and out.

The condition is very good for an object of this age: nice patina, normal signs of use, no structural damage, and fully functional. An appealing collectible and a beautiful decorative piece for lovers of antique optical instruments and 19th-century photography.

Weight: 500 g
Dimensions: 19 x 14 x 11 cm
Materials: wood, brass, glass

Perfect for collectors of antique cameras, optical instruments, and French decorative arts.
