As Zoisite crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system, Tanzanite typically forms transparent, prismatic to needle-like crystals that can reach lengths of several centimeters and exhibit a glassy luster on the surfaces. The cleavage planes, by contrast, glimmer more with a pearly luster.
