Ancient Greek -Lead sling bullet with image of a Greek inscription: AROPOY-32 mm-4th century BC (No reserve price)

Some lead sling bullets bore inscriptions intended to intimidate or mock the enemy. In this case, the Greek inscription ΑΩΡΟΥ (AROPOY) means “immature” or “green,” alluding to a fruit that has not yet ripened. It is a play on words: the projectile is compared to a fruit, but not a desirable one, rather a green and unpleasant-to-receive fruit. It is a form of ironic humor with which the slinger ridiculed his opponent just before impact.
