Baroque-style table lamp dating to 1850–1900, carved wood finished with gold leaf, shield-shaped damask shade, one fitting, 64 cm tall with a 40 cm shade width and 20 cm base depth, in good vintage condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
Table lamp in shield shape – Carved and leaf-gilded wood – Baroque style – Italy, late 19th / early 20th century
Fascinating table lamp made in the 20th century by reusing an antique decorative element in carved and gold-leafed wood. The base, clearly Baroque-inspired, features a volute structure with lion-paw feet and a central raised decoration (mascherone or stylized crest).
Technical and Construction Details
Base: Hand-carved wood with gold leaf finish and bole preparation. The patina of time is evident and gives the piece an authentic, historic charm.
Shade: Shield-shaped form, covered in damask fabric with raised floral motifs in gold and bronze tones, finished with gold trim along the edges.
Electrical: The lamp was electrified later (mid-20th century). It is fitted with a candle-shaped lamp holder and a decorative filament bulb (included). The wiring is vintage but functional (a technical review for modern standards is recommended).
Dimensions
Total height: 64 cm
Shade width: 40 cm
Base depth: 20 cm
Condition
The piece presents as a good vintage condition, with the usual signs of age that attest to its originality:
Wood: Small losses of gilding and plaster preparation (visible in the photos), typical of old gilded wood furnishings.
Fabric: The shade shows some slight wear or stains due to age, which do not compromise the overall aesthetics but add character to the piece.
Structure: Solid and stable.
