Three decorative and functional milk stools from the Netherlands dating from the 1960s–1970s, comprising one four‑leg green stool (about 1.5 kg, 31 cm high, 25 cm seat) and two three‑leg stools—one white from the 1960s–70s (about 750 g, 26 cm high, 20 cm seat) and one brown from the 1970s (28.5 cm high, 24 cm seat)—all in good used condition with minor signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
Three very decorative (and functional) milking stools. It concerns one four-legged milking stool dating probably from the early 1960s, and two three-legged milking stools, the white one probably dating from the 1960s or 1970s, and the brown one from the 1970s of that century. The four-legged green stool weighs a little over 1.5 kg, is 31 cm high, and the seat diameter is 25 cm. The brown stool is 28.5 cm high and the top has a diameter of 24 cm. This stool weighs almost 1.5 kg. The small white stool weighs 750 g, is 26 cm high, and has a top with a diameter of 20 cm. The stools are probably made of oak or beech.
Due to their shape, we call this type of stools milking stools. The three legs provide stability, and because of the relatively low height this type of stool gave the farmer the right sitting height to milk a cow. Most milking stools have three legs, but there are also four-legged ones. Whether these stools were ever really used for milking is doubtful.
What’s special about the green stool is how the legs are attached. They go all the way through the seat, and in a notch a wedge is driven to clamp the leg in place. A nice old-fashioned method, which has ensured that the legs remain firmly anchored to the seat!
The three stools are still 100% stable. There is hardly any play in the legs. The stools still look very good and have only typical signs of use. They can still be used as stools, but they are also very beautiful pieces of furniture in their own right. Furthermore they can be used as plant stands or pedestals (see photos); very beautiful!
The stools are carefully packed and insured for shipping.
