Description from the seller
Here is a polished **English** version suitable for Catawiki:
**Richard Frères (Jules Richard) mahogany table stereoscope for glass plates**, very likely the **“Standard”** model for 45 x 107 mm views, in fully working condition and supplied with one original **Venice** view. This is a fine mechanical tabletop stereoscope by the Paris manufacturer Richard Frères, identifiable by the round RF logo on both the front plate and the rear sliding door.
The instrument has a mahogany case with an internal brass sliding carriage and a black metal optical front fitted with two conical eyepieces and internal lenses. At the rear, a metal door with RF stamp allows a single glass plate to be inserted. Focusing moves smoothly and the image remains sharp throughout the full range. The interocular adjustment also works correctly on both sides.
Condition is very good for an item of this age. The lenses are clear, with no cracks and only light dust as expected. All mechanical functions work properly, with no play in the focusing mechanism. The wood retains an attractive original varnish with light surface scratches and small edge marks, mainly on the top panel, but no cracks or restorations. The metal shows a normal age patina, and the fine engravings remain clearly readable, including serial number **501** on the right side.
**Dimensions:** 18 x 15 x 12 cm
**Weight:** approx. 1 kg
**Materials:** mahogany, brass, metal, glass
A highly desirable collectible for enthusiasts of antique optical instruments, stereophotography, and the classic French photographic industry.
