Signed by the author, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Architecture is a hardback English first edition published by Damiani in 2019, 160 pages, 28 x 26 cm, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
Hiroshi Sugimoto began the Architecture series in 1997, photographing the world's most important modernist buildings; the aim is to “tell our era through architecture.” If rigor and mastery of the technical medium are the foundation of Sugimoto’s photographic style, in this series the artist inverts the entire process: “I pushed the focus of my camera to double infinity, obtaining an indistinct image... and I discovered that these superb architectures survive, however dissolved, the violence of blur.” Stripping every image of color and the sharpness of its lines, Hiroshi Sugimoto reduces the buildings to their essential form. Among the most powerful examples of Modernist architecture, Sugimoto has photographed Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye, Mies van der Rohe’s Seagram Building, and Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim in Bilbao and in New York. ‘Architecture’ presents 90 photographs, 19 of which had never been published before.
