Description from the seller
Antique Victorian Bobbin-Turned Walnut Folding Travel Coat & Hat Rack – ca. 1900
An authentic and beautifully crafted late Victorian to early Edwardian wall-mounted coat and hat rack, dating to circa 1900. This piece showcases exquisite master turnery work known as the bobbin-turned style (or spool design), which was highly favored during the Aesthetic Movement and late 19th-century European furniture design (such as the Gründerzeit era in Germany). Historically, due to its incredibly lightweight build (only 600 grams) and fully collapsible structure, this type of item was often used as a campaign or traveling rack meant to be folded flat and packed inside travel trunks or suitcases.
The mechanical folding system features: Two upper articulated/swing arms with wide finials designed to safely preserve the shape of hats or wigs.
Four lower pivoting pegs for coats, umbrellas, or smaller accessories.
Two metal loops securely fixed to the top frame for wall mounting.
Origin: Western Europe (Germany, United Kingdom, or France)
Period: ca. 1890–1910
Material: Walnut wood (or heavily stained hardwood), metal hinges
Dimensions (in cm): 36 cm (Height) x 56 cm (Width) x approx. 3 cm (Depth when folded completely flat)
Weight: 600 grams
Condition:The item is in authentic antique condition with visible signs of age and long-term history. The wooden frame and pegs show notable surface wear, minor historical nicks, structural abrasions, and a prominent loss/chipping of the original dark stain/varnish finish, which reveals the lighter natural wood underneath. These cosmetic imperfections do not hinder its display value and provide a beautiful, genuine rustic patina. The folding mechanisms and joints remain operational. Please check the provided photos thoroughly for a precise evaluation before placing a bid.
Shipping method:The item will be securely packed in a protective box with professional bubble wrap padding to ensure maximum safety during transit. Shipped exclusively via DPD or DHL with a fully traceable tracking number and registration. Fast and reliable shipping worldwide.
