A rare, expressive, ancient religious sculpture from the year 1908. It is an iconographically fascinating portrayal of a "Trinitarian Pietà" (also known under the motif "The Sorrow of the Father").
Dimensions: 33 x 27.5 x 6 cm
Signed and dated: 1908
The seated man with a crown: That is God the Father. He is depicted here as an older, bearded ruler with a king's crown.
The lying man: That is his Son, Jesus Christ, after the crucifixion with the crown of thorns on his head.
In contrast to the classical Pietà, this group of figures does not show Mary, but the enthroned God the Father with a sovereign crown, who holds the body of his crucified Son Jesus Christ (with crown of thorns) in his lap.
The ancient sculpture with signs of age and patina is in good condition.
From my private collection, a special piece for collectors.
