Description from the seller

Set of three 19th-century folding fans with carved bone sticks from a pre-war collection. Some fans retain old handwritten collector’s tags.
1. Large fan, late 19th – early 20th century, with gauze leaf decorated with painted floral garlands and dotted ornament in the Art Nouveau taste. Length: 35 cm (13.8 in).
2. Hand-painted fan from the first half of the 19th century in the French Rococo taste, inspired by 18th-century fête galante engravings. Decorated with romantic aristocratic scenes and silvered/gilded carved bone sticks. Old collector’s tag attached. Length: 28 cm (11 in).
3. Folding fan from the mid to late 19th century with deep blue fabric leaf shaped in imitation of feathers and pierced geometric bone decoration. Old handwritten tags mention New Orleans provenance and note “100 yrs old in 1941”. Length: approx. 23 cm (9 in).
The fans require varying degrees of restoration and conservation, but all major elements are present.
