Rare late 19th‑century French miniature album in a Bordeaux embossed rigid cover with gold metal clasps, housing 30 removable chromolithographs in their original mounts, measuring 14.5 × 11 × 3.5 cm and in good condition with minor age wear.
Description from the seller
Rare miniature album dating from the late 19th century, preserved in its original antique composition.
This elegant salon album features a burgundy, embossed hard cover with gilded metal clasps, characteristic of the small precious albums of the Belle Époque.
The interior includes 30 antique chromolithographs inserted in their original locations.
The chromos are not glued and can be removed individually.
The collection brings together different scenes typical of the late 19th century:
military scenes,
child scenes,
fantasy images,
antique chromolithographic commercial prints,
photographic souvenirs from the era.
The majority of the chromolithographs feature beautiful metallic gold backgrounds, typical of high-quality French productions of this period.
The thick cardboard pages with embossed window frames, as well as the refined presentation of the album, make it a fine example of bourgeois Belle Époque memory albums.
France
Around 1880–1900
Dimensions:
height: 14.5 cm
width: 11 cm
depth: 3.5 cm
Condition:
Good overall antique condition with wear consistent with age:
- small craze lines,
- old time-stains,
- minor deformation, discreet edge wear and binding wear.
Presence of ancient moisture and mold traces visible mainly on the endpaper guards at the beginning and end of the album (see photos).
These traces remain localized and do not affect the overall preservation of the 30 chromolithographs.
The whole remains particularly decorative and well-preserved for an album of this era.
