Fantastically ornate French figural clock from the 19th century by Raingo Frères, with a white marble case, gilt bronze details, a bevelled glass cover over an enamel dial with hand‑painted Roman numerals, a mechanical 8‑day movement, and striking on the hour and half hour with a single gong.
Description from the seller
Fantastic 19th-century French figural clock. Raingo Freres - Paris
With bevelled glass cover over the enamel dial with hand-painted Roman numerals.
White marble case of very good quality, decorated with ram head motifs, acanthus leaves and floral mounts, raised on acanthus scroll feet, all in gilded bronze of excellent quality.
At the top a gilded bronze figure of a bacchanalian putto and a goat (the goat’s horns protrude, see photos). Both in very good condition.
Movement in brass marked "Raingo Freres - Paris".
Movement, case, a lot and a pendulum all stamped with 332.
Includes a brass winding key.
Circa mid to late 19th century.
Condition: generally good, small repair to the marble and a small section of the dial with the paint worn off. Movement running, keeps time. Strikes on the hour and on the half-hour, but needs service, as the number of strokes does not correspond to the hour, and the hour and half-hour strikes are swapped (one stroke on the hour and two strokes on the half-hour).
