Magic Knight Rayearth is a manga series created by the famous all-female manga artist group CLAMP in 1993. The story follows three Tokyo schoolgirls—Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu—who are transported to a magical world called Cephiro to become legendary knights. The series blends magical girl elements with fantasy, mecha, and video game-inspired storytelling.
CLAMP, formed in the 1980s, became internationally famous for their elegant art style and unique storytelling. The group now consists of four main members: Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi.
An interesting fact: Magic Knight Rayearth was intentionally structured like a video game, with different "levels" and boss fights, which was innovative at the time.
