Paleolithic Hand Axe (Biface) – Acheulean – ca. 300,000 to 500,000 years old – Dordogne, France – From Private Collection

Description: An exceptionally beautiful and fully authentic prehistoric hand axe (biface) from the Stone Age. This impressive tool has a spectacular age estimated at 300,000 to 500,000 years old and dates to the Acheulean culture (Early to Middle Paleolithic). It was handmade at the time by an early hominin, such as Homo heidelbergensis or an early Neanderthal.

This particular piece comes from the Dordogne region, France, the cradle of European prehistory.

Features & Specifications: Age: Middle Paleolithic (ca. 300,000 – 500,000 years old). Type: Acheulean hand axe / bifacial almond-shaped (amygdaloid).
Provenance: Ex-private collection.
Material: High-quality French flint (silex) with a gorgeous, characteristic honey-brown patina and natural luster.
Working: Fully bifacial (two-sided) knapped. Both faces are carefully finished around the edges, symmetrical and sharp.
Length: 165 mm (16.5 cm)
Weight: 600 g
Condition: Excellent prehistoric condition. No modern restorations or fractures. The refined flake scars and prehistoric use wear are beautifully visible. A rare collectible for the serious enthusiast of early archaeology and lithic material.
