Description from the seller

Beautiful pair of antique neoclassical cassolettes (decorative lid vases), made from painted tin or 'tôle-ware' (sheet metal/tin alloy). These elegant vases have a distinctive boat-shaped (oval) bowl and rest on a slender, fluted base.

The vases are finished in a deep dark brown base color, richly decorated with hand-painted gold and terracotta details. The front and back show atmospheric, romantic scenes: on one side a classical ruin with figures, and on the other a typical Dutch/European landscape with a windmill and a thatched-roof farmhouse.

Special features:
Cast lion heads: On both sides there are beautifully detailed, gilded lion heads that bear a loose ring in their mouths.
Classic finial: The lids rise gracefully to a pointed, leaf-shaped vase-pillar (finial).
Condition: In good antique condition with a beautiful, authentic patina. There are light signs of aging in the painting and minimal wear to the edges (as expected for objects of this age), which adds to the historical character. See the photos for an accurate impression of the interior and details.

Dimensions:
Height: approx. 31.5 cm (including lid)
Length (top of bowl): approx. 21 cm
Width/Depth (top of bowl): approx. 12.5 cm

An exceptionally decorative pair that fits beautifully in a classic, eclectic, or historical interior. The pair will be carefully packaged and sent by registered mail.
