Description from the seller
Antique Napoleon III vanity mirror in gilded brass – Rocaille decoration – circa 1900
There are objects that withstand the test of time… and continue to tell a story.
This antique vanity mirror, dating from the second half of the 19th century, fully embodies the refined aesthetics of the Napoleon III era.
Inspired by the Rococo forms of the 18th century, it captivates with its elegance, the richness of its decoration, and the finesse of its craftsmanship.
Mounted on a finely chased gilded brass pedestal, it features an oval frame adorned with regular friezes and topped by an openwork pediment with delicate scrolls.
The side supports, finished with turned elements and the original adjustment knob, allow tilting the mirror — a detail both practical and emblematic of vanity items of that period.
The back is clad in a deep red velvet, patinated by time, which enhances its authentic character and vintage charm.
With its generous dimensions (56 x 38 cm), this mirror goes beyond a mere utilitarian object: it becomes a true decorative piece, ideal on a vanity, a chest of drawers, or in an interior with a classic, romantic, or eclectic style.
Specifications:
- Period: Napoleon III, circa 1870–1890
- Material: gilded brass / bronze
- Decoration: Rocaille, scrolls, floral motifs
- Pivoting mirror with original mechanism
- Back in antique red velvet
- Dimensions: 56 cm high x 38 cm wide
Condition:
Good overall condition with an even antique patina, testament to its authenticity. Some signs of age visible (slight oxidation, micro-scratches), not affecting its solidity or its aesthetics. Mirror stable and functional.
An object full of character, both elegant and storied, that will naturally find its place in a carefully kept interior or a collection of antique objects.
