Description from the seller
Old embroidery on a silk background, work from the late 19th century, illustrating a lively landscape in a picturesque spirit: river, stone bridge, ruins and a character accompanied by animals in a wooded setting.
The execution in polychrome silk threads testifies to careful work, with a beautiful search for depth and a nuanced rendering of planes. The tones subtly patinated by time fully contribute to the charm of this decorative composition.
Dimensions visible: about 30.5 x 22.2 cm
Dimensions with frame: about 47.5 x 36.7 cm
Presentation under an antique mat (about 3.1 x 2 cm), in a wooden frame presumably later, with double backing on the reverse.
Condition:
The embroidery is well preserved.
The silk background shows age-related alterations, notably in the upper part as well as in the lake area. Presence of light stains and marks of time.
Framing shows wear at the corners.
Characteristic of decorative textile productions of the late 19th century, appreciated for its finesse of execution and evocative character.
