Description from the seller
Table service consisting of: 5 wine glasses with height 11.9 cm x diameter 6 cm in mouth-blown crystal.
The goblet is made of uranium glass (historically known as Uranoline or Vaseline glass). This particular blend, rich in charm, glows with a bright green-yellow hue and, when exposed to ultraviolet light (Wood lamp), reacts by becoming intensely fluorescent. In luxury services of the era, the inclusion of colored Reno wine or liqueur glasses served to break the monocrome of the table, creating a spectacular visual contrast with the rest of the transparent glasses. Provenance: France, the decorative style recalls famous French productions (such as Baccarat or St. Louis). Period: Late 19th century – early 20th century (circa 1890-1930). At the time (before 1936), many of these manufactories did not stamp pieces with an acid-indelible mark on the bottom, but used simple paper labels that were lost with washing. Cup with flared egg shape, stem with a faceted hexagonal baluster, and a smooth circular foot. The contrast between acid engraving and the colored background magnificently highlights the millimetric precision of the design. The uranium present inside the glass melt as a colorant (in very small percentages, completely harmless to health) has the natural property of being strongly fluorescent: when struck by UV rays, it absorbs energy and re-emits it as the spectacular and intense fluorescent green/neon glow that is clearly visible on your pieces.
