Description from the seller

Antique 19th Century Turned Wood Tobacco Jar – Dutch Biedermeier Treenware

An exceptional and finely crafted 19th-century antique turned wood tobacco jar (treenware), dating from the Biedermeier period (circa 1840).

This beautiful jar is skillfully lathe-turned from a single block of high-quality hardwood, showcasing a magnificent, deep natural grain and a rich, warm honey-brown patina accumulated over nearly two centuries. The body features an elegant, classic waisted profile with prominent ring-turned details around the base and center. It is complete with its original, perfectly fitting stepped lid, topped with a finely turned baluster finial/knop.

Originally used on formal salon tables to keep tobacco fresh, this piece is now a highly collectible example of historical domestic woodwork. A wonderful addition to any treen collection, or a sophisticated decorative statement piece for a rustic, traditional, or eclectic interior.

In excellent antique condition, with light surface wear and minor superficial marks consistent with age and genuine use. The wood has a wonderful dry-waxed patina and feels smooth to the touch. No structural cracks, major chips, or repairs. The lid fits snug and correct.

Good condition. Secured shipping.
