Every minute, by means of a constantly turning lever, a ball is brought upward and released into the upper minute trough.
When the fifth ball has rolled into the minute trough, this trough empties and a ball rolls into the middle 5-minute trough.
After the twelfth ball has rolled into the middle 5-minute trough, that trough empties and a ball rolls into the bottom hour trough. Sometimes a ball is hanging and needs the clockmaker to inspect it.
