Description from the seller
Caucasian Sumak, an antique Sumak woven carpet. Sumaks are carpets in that they have one or more weft threads, but they are flat-woven like kilims since they have no pile. The extraordinary weaving technique has been cited as an example in French Aubusson tapestries. Let us turn to this great carpet: First of all, although woven further north, it bears the influence of the Kuba area nearby, boasting a beautiful blue-ground border that in some spots leans toward turquoise; the weave is extremely fine and it is excellently preserved. Some areas, those where the threads were dyed with iron oxide, could be retouched, but to avoid losing the wild charm of this craftsmanship, I advise not to do so. There are some, truthfully few, old restorations that do not disturb the harmony of this stunning piece. In my opinion, this sumak needs minor touch-ups and the restoration of a small hole caused by wear. I was told that the anti-pest treatment has already been carried out." The numerous images show the details better than words. I therefore invite you to study them carefully to verify the condition of the object and avoid any misunderstanding. Thank you
