Leather top hat from Italy, dating to 1850–1900, in good used condition with signs of wear, measuring 18.5 cm high and 16 cm wide.
Description from the seller
Top hat. A wonderful Black top hat, really elegant and in excellent condition, a classic top hat, typically made of silk, very popular between the 19th and the early 20th century.
Its protective case in brown leather with purple silk lining to protect the hat. Inside, to maintain the hat's shape, a cushion. It is worn being leather but it did its job, preserving the top hat very well.
The black hat is externally in black fuzzy fabric with a black trim and internally in cardboard. Inside there is a logo of Fratelli Viganò of Rome, a historic workshop producing precious memorabilia from the early 1900s, such as this hat; inside I found a label referring to Avvocato Tancredi Galimberti, Deputy to the Parliament, a politician and Italian minister, deputy for the Cuneo district from 1887 to 1913, linked to Giovanni Giolitti. He served as Minister of Posts and Telegraphs in the Zanardelli government (1901-1903). Elected to the Chamber for the first time on July 3, 1887. He was a prominent liberal figure, close to Giolittian positions.
A piece of high historical value. Produced by the Viganò company of Rome
Measurements: cm 18.5 x 16 exterior; cm 16 x 28 x 23 interior; hatbox cm 34 x 31 x 26; weight 1.4 kg.
