Rare and particularly decorative vintage set of pepper and salt mills from the 1970s, designed by Birgit Krogh for Richard Nissen Denmark. This sculptural model is known under the name Polka Dot and today belongs to the most recognizable and collectible Danish grinders from the second half of the twentieth century.

The set is finished in different contrasting woods, creating a warm and playful graphic effect. The inlaid round “polka dot” details give the mills their iconic look and make these objects not only functional but also true sculptures within a Scandinavian interior.

Both grinders are stamped at the bottom with “Nissen Denmark” and equipped with Peugeot Frères Lyon’s high-quality milling mechanism, worldwide renowned for its quality and durability.

The set is also mentioned within the world of Danish design grinders as described in the reference book Danish Pepper by Mark Perlson (2008), a standard work for collectors of Scandinavian pepper and salt grinders. Due to large export mainly to the United States, original examples of Richard Nissen are nowadays increasingly difficult to find in Europe — especially complete sets in this beautiful condition.

The mills have been cleaned, are fully functional and ready for immediate use.

Condition:
Both pieces are in excellent vintage condition with only minimal signs of use appropriate to age and use. The original red stoppers at the base are still present.
