Description from the seller
Val Saint Lambert Crystal Perfume Flacons – “Diamants Pierreries” Series – ca. 1908
An elegant pair of antique crystal perfume flacons by Val Saint Lambert, documented in the 1908 catalogue as part of the celebrated Diamants Pierreries series. These refined toilette accessories beautifully reflect the luxurious decorative aesthetic of the Belle Époque period, combining rich geometric ornamentation with remarkable brilliance and precision.
Executed in pressed crystal, the flacons are decorated with intricate diamond-pattern motifs and radiant fan-shaped details that create a vivid interplay of light across the surface. The faceted spherical stoppers and star-cut bases further enhance their sophisticated appearance and sculptural elegance.
Although moulded rather than hand-cut, these pieces demonstrate the exceptionally high level of technical mastery achieved by Val Saint Lambert at the beginning of the 20th century. The crystal captures and refracts light beautifully, giving the objects a brilliance and depth often comparable to traditional cut crystal.
Authenticity is confirmed by the original 1908 catalogue reference illustrating this exact model within the complete toilette service. Pieces from the Diamants Pierreries collection remain highly appreciated today for their timeless elegance and historical significance within early Belgian crystal production.
Condition is very good for their age. The smaller flacon has a small imperfection on the base and a tiny chip on the inner part of the stopper, both visible in the photos.
Val Saint Lambert, nestled in Seraing near Liège, Belgium, is a beacon of crystal craftsmanship with a legacy spanning nearly two centuries. Established in 1826 by chemist François Kemlin and engineer Auguste Lelièvre, the company transformed the remnants of the Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey into a thriving glassworks.
The 19th century marked a period of significant growth for Val Saint Lambert. By the early 1900s, the company employed over 5,000 workers, producing 120,000 pieces of glass daily. Their creations, renowned for exceptional quality and intricate designs, found admirers worldwide, including in Tsarist Russia and North America. A testament to their artistry is the “Vase of the Nine Provinces,” a monumental piece over 2 meters tall and weighing 200 kilograms, crafted for the 1894 World Exhibition in Antwerp.
The 20th century brought challenges, including the impacts of two World Wars and economic downturns. Despite these obstacles, Val Saint Lambert’s resilience ensured the preservation of its artisanal heritage. Today, the company seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, producing exquisite crystal pieces that cater to modern aesthetics.
Val Saint Lambert stands as a symbol of Belgian craftsmanship, where each piece reflects a harmonious blend of history, artistry, and innovation.
