Ceremonia Vudu', an oil painting in naive art style from Haiti by Alix, 40×60 cm, signed, original edition, 1980, depicting a nocturnal scene, in good condition and sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
This painting was purchased by my father during a trip with the whole family to Haiti in 1980. I was also there and I was 17 years old at the time.
It is a typical example of Haitian Naïve art and represents a Voodoo ritual dance.
During the trip we witnessed a Voodoo ceremony in person.
At the bottom you can also notice a white symbol near the feet; it is a Veve used to invoke the Loa, the spirits that act as intermediaries between humanity and the divine.
The author signs Alix, certainly from the Port-au-Prince school. I cannot determine the author with precision as there are several authors from that period with the surname Alix.
The signature is clearly visible in the photo. The most probable author is Gabriel Alix (1930 - 1998)
The frame measures 74 cm by 54 cm, and it is included as a courtesy and does not form an integral part of the work. Any damage to the frame will not be a valid reason for complaints or order cancellations.
