Vase by Martina Corti, an Italian designer, contemporary hand‑made ceramic in clay with kitsugi decor, dating from 2020+, dimensions 17 cm high, 14 cm wide, 14 cm deep (diameter 14 cm), origin Lombardy, Italy.
Description from the seller
Height: 17 cm (Diameter: 16 cm)
Being entirely handcrafted, there may be slight variations in size and color compared to the photos and among different pieces in the same series.
This vase was shaped and turned by hand and then fired using the evocative Pitfire technique (pit firing). This technique is characterized by its spectacular and unpredictable aesthetics, capable of giving unique and unrepeatable shading, decorations and color effects to every piece.
The fascinating gradations and flames on the body of the vase are due to the direct contact of the clay with the fumes, embers and the alchemy of fire in a low-oxygen environment.
The piece underwent a long and meticulous processing cycle: it was subjected to an initial firing (bisque) in a neutral atmosphere for about nine hours at 1020°C. Subsequently, the pit firing at 880°C.
The piece is absolutely safe and contains no toxic or dangerous substances. This vase is intended for decorative purposes only: due to the porosity typical of this firing technique, it is recommended not to fill it with water. For cleaning, use only a dry cloth.
Remember: this is not factory-made, mass-produced ceramic; each vase has its own individual soul. All pieces are entirely hand-built, turned and finished in my studio in Lecco, Italy.
