Twelve solid 800 silver dessert spoons with vermeil bowls, each 14.5 cm long and weighing 324 g in total, in Art Nouveau/Jugendstil style from Germany circa 1900–1910, all hallmarked 800 and in good condition with period patina.
Description from the seller
12 solid silver 800 dessert spoons – vermeil – 324 g
Art Nouveau / Jugendstil – ca. 1900
A superb set of 12 ice cream or dessert spoons in 800 solid silver (hallmark visible and legible on each piece), with gilt vermeil bowls, in the Jugendstil / Art Nouveau style.
Origin and period
German or Austro-Hungarian manufacture, circa 1890–1910, at the height of the Jugendstil movement. This type of festooned dessert cutlery with vermeil gilding and raised floral decoration was produced by the great German silversmithing houses of the era.
Handles in relief with a stylised iris or anemone floral motif, slender stem, pointed navette tip. Trilobate festooned bowls with fine engraved inner decoration (iris, interlaced ribbons), unmonogrammed central reserve.
Length: 14.5 cm
Total weight of the set: 324 g
Solid silver — not silver-plated metal
Not to be confused with silver-plated or electroplated metal, which is commonly found.
The 800 hallmark guarantees 80% pure silver content in the alloy — this is fully regulated solid silver, equivalent to 925 sterling or French 950 silver. The set contains approximately 261 grams of fine silver. At the current silver spot price (~€1.89/g), the intrinsic metal value alone stands at approximately €490. The asking price therefore remains very reasonable given the decorative and historical value of the set.
Good overall condition, with normal wear and period-consistent patina in keeping with the age of the pieces. Slight oxidation marks on some handles; vermeil gilding present across all bowls — please refer to photographs.
A complete and homogeneous set of 12 matching pieces — exceptionally rare to find in a full set.
