Dish - Fayence - Ornate Bowl, Fish Decor

Large antique ceremonial bowl.

Material: lime-containing faience (tin glaze on light earthenware shards) with a noticeably bright, porcelain-like sound (proof of a crack-free body).

Decor: hand-painted, rare chinoiserie fish motif in underglaze painting (cobalt blue and antimony yellow).

Edge: original, intentional manganese edge with era-typical fine color blooming.

Age: late 18th / early 19th century (ca. 1780–1810), Neoclassicism.

Origin: France (Boulogne-sur-Mer area / Desvres or Nevers).

Back: handwritten blue painter's mark and three pronounced, manufacture-typical firing marks.

Condition: exceptionally good, unrestored; the glaze shows fine, age-related craquelure. There is only a minimal 4 mm chip at the rim (see photo), otherwise completely intact.
