forearm guard - Igitembe - Tutsi - Rwanda

These bracelets were worn on the wrist by the archers. They were meant to protect the forearm from the bowstring that would pass by the forearm when shooting. They were worn by the warriors and were also a prestige object. The small copper ornaments were imported from Katanga and were a sign of affluence.
