Description from the seller

Rare Antique Tin Renaissance Eating Spoon with Crowned Tudor Rose Mark – Late 16th / Early 17th Century

We are offering a fascinating and authentic tin eating spoon from the late Renaissance (ca. 1575 – 1610). This spoon is a classic example of early European cutlery and reflects the transition from medieval design to the early Baroque. A beautiful object for collectors.

The Master Mark (Foundry Mark): Very clearly struck on the inside of the bowl, near the tang base. It shows a detailed Crowned Tudor Rose (the official quality mark for fine tin). On the outside of the crown the letter 'B' is recognizable, referring to the initials of the master tin founder from one of the historical guilds in the Netherlands or Flanders.

Typology & Form: The spoon has a characteristic, early egg-shaped (spoon-shaped) bowl and a robust, thickly poured tang base. The handle flows into a flat, shield-shaped knop (an early precursor of the Puritan or trifid model)

Owner marks: On the flat knop at the end of the handle there are clear initials that were deeply stamped at the time. This testifies to a very conscious, permanent ownership mark from the period.
