Description from the seller
“Barr gravity electric clock” – under glass dome
A particularly charming and authentic clock with a nostalgic appearance. This piece comes from our own import from the United States.
From 1926, this type of clock appeared on the market. After a production halt at Poole, they were reissued from 1937 under the Barr name, with a renewed line of models.
What makes these clocks special is the ingenious drive principle: the pendulum directly drives the gear train and thus the hands.
To keep the pendulum moving, an escapement is present. When the swing arc of the pendulum becomes too small, the escapement mechanism engages according to the Hipp-toggle principle. The escapement then provides an impulse, causing the pendulum to have a larger swing again. This happens about every 20 seconds. During the fall the escapement closes an electrical contact, after which an anchor mechanism re-energizes the arm.
This Barr clock offered here sits under a glass dome, allowing the beautiful movement to be fully visible.
With serial number 44944, the clock is dated to around 1940, though it could be from a somewhat later date. The whole piece has a warm, classic appearance.
The movement has been fully ultrasonically cleaned, adjusted, and tested for proper operation. The case has been cleaned and put through the wash. You are buying a handsome and reliably running clock for your home that you will enjoy for many years.
