A bronze letter holder in the shape of a heron head, dating from circa 1850–1900 and made in Paris, France by Susse Frères, measuring 6 cm high, 20 cm wide and 7 cm deep, in vintage yellow bronze with red glass eyes and a black iris, featuring a smoothly working spring clamp for letters.
Description from the seller
A rare bronze letter holder in the shape of a heron’s head.
France, Paris – circa 1850.
Bronze, with inlaid eyes of red glass with black irises.
Extremely detailed casting — the feathers evoking speed in flight.
Manufactured by the renowned French art foundry Susse Frères in Paris.
Susse Frères was founded in the first half of the 19th century and is still the only active major art foundry in France.
Among others, Auguste Rodin, Camille Claudel, Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, François Pompon... had works cast there.
The object is in excellent, original, and good working condition (a flexible and sturdy spring that ensures the clamping of letters/papers).
This is a fantastic addition for the collector and a very decorative example of applied art. A real collector’s item, indeed!
Shipped very carefully packed and insured with track & trace.
