Four books on time measurement in the German language.
The development is treated from the early 13th century with water clocks, hourglasses to the early modern period of the twentieth century with atomic clocks and radio-controlled timekeeping instruments. The development history, from gatekeeper clocks, clocks for use in houses, tower clocks and specialized accurate timepieces for a variety of scientific and societal purposes.
A wide range of clock types is covered, as well as the origins regionally and nationally. Technical falsifications, materials, restorations, names of clockmakers, etc. are reviewed.
