An antique Caucasian Moghan rug (Southeast Caucasus).
A hand-knotted rug from the Shahsavan nomads of this region, in gallery format.
Beautiful natural vegetable colors.
The blue field is adorned with seven octagonal medallions with
various field colors and motifs. In the center of the medallions are cross-shaped flowers with side branches and diagonal crosses.
The blue field is very densely and finely decorated with various
swastikas, flowers and rosettes. The light brown main border is decorated with arrow motifs, rosettes and small cross-shaped flowers, flanked
by two light-colored secondary borders with geometric flowers and curved tendrils.
Period: circa 1880.
Dimensions: ca. 3.13 x 1.11 meters (ca. 10.4 x 3.8 feet).
Material: Wool on wool with beautiful natural colors.
Condition: Uneven pile with low spots and wear (see photos).
The octagon is divided at the bottom into two, reduced in size, and then re-sewn together.
The ends are shortened and then fixed in place.
Both edges show signs of age and use (see photos).
Overall impression: good and acceptable.
An interesting and desirable collectible.
