Antique J. Dent pocket watch from the Victorian era (ca. 1850–1880) with a silver case, 50 mm diameter, white enamel dial, hand-wound movement, and a men’s model in moderate to heavy wear.
Description from the seller
General description
For sale is a fascinating antique pocket watch from the renowned English manufacturer J. Dent, London. This specimen was produced in the second half of the 19th century specifically for the Ottoman market (export trade to the Levant). A real piece of history and a highlight for collectors of historic watches.
Special features
Dial: Original white enamel dial with traditional Ottoman numerals. A small seconds is at the 12 o’clock position. The maker’s signature “Dent London” is printed centered over the dial.
Case: Classic, solid silver case with fine assay marks on the inner lid.
Accessories: A matching, decorative watch key for winding and adjusting the hands is included.
Condition & Important Note (Defect)
Movement: The watch is currently not functioning. It is explicitly sold as defective, for tinkering, for repair, or as a source of spare parts.
Appearance: The case shows an age-related, charming patina (see photos). The enamel dial shows slight hairline cracks and minimal edge flaws, which underscore the authentic character of this watch over 130 years old.
Technical data
Manufacturer: J. Dent, London
Era: Approximately 1850–1880 (Victorian era)
Dial numerals: Ottoman/Turkish
Case material: Silver (hallmarked)
Winding: Key-wound (key included)
Regarding the wrist strap I had to enter something, although it has no strap. Bronze is not correct!
