Description from the seller
Unique and otherwise unavailable on the Internet, this copy is signed by John Divola on the front matter. 142 pages and nearly 200 black-and-white and color photographs, 58 full-page, with English text by David Campany and an interview of John Divola by Jan Tumur. Beautiful blue cloth binding with illustrated dust jacket. In Excellent condition (like new).
This book, published by the prestigious American photography-lifestyle publisher Aperture, brings together three series of photographs made from 1973 to 1978. In 1973, the Californian artist John Divola embarked on the first of three ambitious and original series that form Three Acts. The first series, “Vandalism,” consists of black-and-white photographs of interiors of abandoned houses. Entering illegally, Divola paints with spray inscriptions that reference both action painting and graffiti, at a time when both were flourishing culturally. The following year he photographed an abandoned neighborhood, purchased to serve as a noise-buffer zone for the new runways, focusing on traces of illegal intrusions by other vandals. Divola here concentrates on unauthorized entries by vandals who had fled long ago. The exhaustive catalog of intrusions shows violent entries: broken glass, doors forced open. The last act, realized in color, depicts the destruction of an abandoned seaside property by the artist and friends, image by image, up to its burning. These cyclic images deftly juxtapose romantic skies and sunsets with a seaside structure that degrades, image after image, into ruin.
Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition (like new), kept with the utmost care. Very effective insured shipping and guaranteed international tracking. For multiple purchases, it is possible to combine shipments with reimbursement of any overpaid postage via PayPal.
