AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Elegant Savonarola chair by Florentine artists in walnut wood.

Made in the mid-20th century in Italy, specifically in the Tuscany region.
The Savonarola is a folding chair, foldable like a book, consisting of serpentine curved elements and X-crossed sections. The backrest represents the lily, Florentine symbol, while it is wrapped by floral decorations.

The term "Savonarola" derives from the name of Girolamo Savonarola (1452 - 1498), during whose time the chair of this type, still preserved in his cell at the San Marco convent in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death, would date back.

In generally good condition, normal signs of wear and age (see photos). The chair has recently been restored with anti-termite treatment and wax for wood care. Dimensions: 90 cm height x 60 cm length.
