Description from the seller

Imposing pure silk double bedspread in large size from the late 1800s, early 1900s in the Luigi Filippo style.

Given its ample measurements it is made up of two silk panels sewn together on the inside and you can only see a central seam, but that does not detract from its beauty. They were sewn so well that the embroidery and designs align perfectly.

A detail that becomes evident only when you get close. In old times it was common to stitch fabrics for different uses, differentiating them.

As for color, the background is light blue, while the embroidered designs are gold. It is all embroidery, with circles worked with outer lines to enrich it, and in the center a flower. Below are embroidered willow leaves, like a weeping willow tree. It is all a geometric motif with these designs placed asymmetrically, one up high and one down low. It is not the classic damask, but an embroidery with patterns laid out as if it were a tapestry. This workmanship continues on the two side parts and at the foot of the bed.

It is of generous proportions, precisely because antique beds were higher; in fact, on my bed, which though from the 1700s has modern slats, it reaches to the floor. It measures 246 cm in length and 255 cm in width, to which you add a 14 cm fringe, so it fits a bed perfectly. A straight, simple fringe that echoes the colors of the coverlet. It was custom-made by my family precisely for the beauty of its colors and the type of silk, but you can tell it has been used very little because the silk is in excellent condition, as is the fringe. They used to furnish a lot of linen thinking of the dowry to be given to the children, and given the large number of bedspreads I have found many that were never used.

The fact that it has two small marks typical of cashmere (I photographed them) testifies to its age and shows that it is an antique bedspread, but they do not detract from its beauty. Of great value is the pure silk type used.

I therefore wrote “good condition” precisely because of these two marks; otherwise it is in excellent condition.

My ancestors placed great importance on the home and loved renewing the drapes, always having linen made that expressed beauty and refinement. It is of ample measure, including the fringe, because as I have already written, antique beds were higher, so it fits a bed perfectly down to the floor.

It is part of the trousseau I inherited, and given the large number of bedspreads of various fabrics and colors, I am selling many of them so they can have a new life. Given its large dimensions, I have even used it as a sofa cover, given the beauty of its colors, and as a tablecloth under a wall-adjacent table, reaching to the floor, with a white embroidered overlay on top to showcase the designs.

It easily matches the colors, fabrics, and drapes of a home. Beautiful to use on an antique bed to highlight its importance, but also stands out on a simple modern bed. In fact, I would say it would add a touch of elegance and refinement. It fits easily with a classic or modern interior. When something is beautiful, there is always a use for it. You just need imagination and to especially love the home furnishings in which you live. Every home reflects the taste and refinement of its inhabitants. The Buyer will decide what use to make of it.

I ship with a private courier rather than the post office so it arrives sooner, with double packaging and easier communication.

Given its measurements, the bedspread will be shipped packed with a thousand bubbles and placed in a box to provide greater protection.

Shipping costs vary depending on whether it is Europe in zone one or two, such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Eastern European countries, and zone three such as Norway, Malta, Cyprus, and the rest of the world.

Duties and customs charges will be borne by the buyer.
