WMF Ikora glass art Deco bowl, 24 cm diameter and 8 cm height, made in Germany in the 1920s–1930s using the Ikora technique, transparent pink to amber glass with a dark brown thread motif, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Offered: a beautiful IKORA art glass bowl with a rare finely refined and expressive wire decoration in Art Deco style, manufactured in Germany in the period 1920–1930 of the last century by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik). The color of the bowl depends on the light, but is best described as a pink/amber hue with translucent glass.
This bowl was produced using the Ikora technique developed by WMF, in which different types of glass, colors and metal oxides are combined to create unique, glittering and marbled surfaces. The chief designer behind the Ikora glasswork was Karl Wiedmann, who worked as head designer of the decorative arts department at WMF from 1926 to 1945. Wiedmann was a contemporary of Andries Copier. This is also visible in the designs and the often-seen craquelé style. Wiedmann played a central role in the development of the Ikora technique and designed countless iconic vases, bowls and glass objects that are now regarded as valuable collectibles. Most Ikora objects date from the late 1920s and early 1930s.
This decorative bowl is rendered in transparent pink to soft amber-colored glass with a characteristic dark brown embedded wire motif that spreads across the entire bowl like an organic network. The decoration gives a lively and almost painterly effect, typical of WMF Ikora artistic glass production.
Because of the broad open form and the transparent color gradient, the appearance changes with light and viewing angle. This makes it a stylish and particularly decorative object, so it fits perfectly within an Art Deco, vintage or design interior.
Dimensions:
• Diameter: 24 cm
• Height: 8 cm
Condition:
The bowl is in very good condition without chips, cracks or restorations (wear indicative of age if present). Photos are part of the description.
Shipping:
Carefully packaged and insured shipping. Pickup possible by arrangement.
