Hima milk jug (Ebyanzi) from Uganda, a wood and silver vessel of Bahima heritage, dating circa 1920–1960, 21 × 23 × 23 cm, two-object lot, with a 7 cm crack from the collar and two chips at the collar, in good condition.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A nearly perfect Hima milk jug (called Ebyanzi); A truly fine specimen from Uganda. Milk jugs were used for keeping milk upon milking the cow. Often, as is the case of this jug, it was a measure of the amount of milk that a bride-to-be had to drink daily to fatten her up, the traditional life of the Bahima people.
Hima milk pot, Uganda, wood, silver, 21x23H, c. 1920-1960
It has a thin crack down from the collar running down the opposite side of the silver (behind), approximately 7cm long. Due to the rich dark tone of the wood this is hardly noticeable and tt was there when I bought it in 2013. It also has 2 chips at the collar, not visible when the lid is in place.
