Bronze cerillero, model Cerillero, from France, in Art Nouveau style dating to 1910–1920, gold-coloured with dimensions 9 cm high, 15 cm wide and 12 cm deep, in good used condition with minor signs of age and imperfections, titled Concha.
Description from the seller
It is a small piece but with a very clear Art Nouveau personality, one of those that condense in just a few centimeters all the naturalist poetry of the turn of the century. The body takes the shape of an open shell, not as a mere decorative motif, but as a true visual metaphor: the wavy line, the grooved edge, the sense of organic movement that seems to emerge from the material itself. That soft dynamism is exactly what the Modernist workshops between 1890 and 1910 were seeking.
The metal — probably brass or a similar alloy — shows an antique patina that smooths the shine and accentuates the reliefs, giving it that lived-in look that greatly suits everyday objects. At one end rises the small match striker, a simple yet well-integrated structure that balances the composition without breaking the naturalist harmony of the whole. The rectangular base, decorated with discreet geometric motifs, acts as a rational counterpoint to the shell’s fluidity, a dialogue very typical of early Art Nouveau.
It is a functional object — a candelabrum and a match holder at once — but also a small fragment of domestic sculpture, designed to accompany the warm light of a candle with a touch of maritime fantasy. A perfect piece for anyone who appreciates authentic Modernist details, those that combine utility, beauty, and a nod to nature.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
