Description from the seller
Exceptionally inscribed and signed copy on the half-title page by Raymond Depardon (born 1942), unique and unavailable as a signed copy and extremely rare as an unsigned copy. 286 pages and 278 color photographs printed full-bleed, text by Raymond Depardon in French, English and German, semi-rigid plastic binding. In excellent condition, practically as new.
The Fondation Cartier for Contemporary Art initiated this project and 12 cities had been chosen, starting with Tokyo, the largest city in the world with 32 million inhabitants, and ending with the smallest, Addis Ababa. Raymond Depardon began in Rio de Janeiro in 2004 and finished in Paris. These cities are Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai, Tokyo, Berlin, Moscow, Addis Ababa, Cairo, Buenos Aires, New York, Johannesburg, Dubai and Paris.
Seven cities were the subject of an installation in Paris at the Fondation Cartier, but it was in Berlin, at the Museum Für Fotografie, that the entirety of the 12 cities was presented for the first time in February 2007. Raymond Depardon writes: "I enjoyed getting lost in these foreign cities; I strove to blend into the flow of passersby on the busy streets of these great metropolises... Three days in each city, trying to hold onto that first look, before leaving the city like a thief of images... Sidewalks and pedestrians, rivers and bridges, shores and ports, rain and sun increasingly resemble one another across continents... My companions were a small Aaton camera with Kodak A-minima film, a Bronica 645 and color films.
Copy in excellent condition, practically like new. A book from my personal collection kept with the greatest care. Shipped protected with reinforced packaging and guaranteed international postal tracking. For multiple purchases, combined shipping is possible with a refund of any excess postage paid via PayPal.
