Description from the seller
Val Saint Lambert “Service Théodora” Crystal Port or Sherry Glasses — Belgium, 1904–1905 Catalogue, Set of 6
A refined set of six antique crystal glasses by Val Saint Lambert, Belgium, documented in the official 1904–1905 catalogue as part of the elegant Service Théodora. Entirely hand-cut and hand-finished, the glasses reflect the exceptional craftsmanship and refined table culture of the Belle Époque period.
The design features a delicate repeating oval-cut motif, beautifully complemented by elegant stems and harmonious proportions. The combination of brilliant crystal and intricate cutting creates a lively play of light, characteristic of the finest Belgian crystal production of the era.
With a capacity of approximately 80 ml, these glasses were likely intended for fortified wines such as port, sherry, madeira, or similar aperitif and dessert wines, which were traditionally served in smaller quantities at the beginning of the 20th century. Their refined proportions remain perfectly suited to these uses today.
Crafted from high-quality crystal, the glasses display remarkable clarity and brilliance. The original catalogue illustration, shown in the photo gallery, confirms the authenticity and historical provenance of the model, linking the set directly to Val Saint Lambert’s prestigious early twentieth-century production.
The set remains in very good condition, with no chips or cracks. Finding a complete matching set of antique glasses preserved for more than 120 years is increasingly uncommon, making this ensemble particularly desirable for collectors and enthusiasts of historic tableware.
An elegant and authentic Belle Époque set, equally suitable for collectors, formal entertaining, or daily enjoyment. Combining documented catalogue provenance, exceptional hand craftsmanship, and timeless design, these glasses represent a beautiful example of early Belgian crystal artistry.
As with all entirely handmade crystal of this period, slight variations and tiny manufacturing irregularities may be present, serving as a testament to traditional artisanal production methods and adding to the authenticity and charm of the set.

Val Saint Lambert, nestled in Seraing near Liège, Belgium, is a beacon of crystal craftsmanship with a legacy spanning nearly two centuries. Established in 1826 by chemist François Kemlin and engineer Auguste Lelièvre, the company transformed the remnants of the Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey into a thriving glassworks.
The 19th century marked a period of significant growth for Val Saint Lambert. By the early 1900s, the company employed over 5,000 workers, producing 120,000 pieces of glass daily. Their creations, renowned for exceptional quality and intricate designs, found admirers worldwide, including in Tsarist Russia and North America. A testament to their artistry is the “Vase of the Nine Provinces,” a monumental piece over 2 meters tall and weighing 200 kilograms, crafted for the 1894 World Exhibition in Antwerp.
The 20th century brought challenges, including the impacts of two World Wars and economic downturns. Despite these obstacles, Val Saint Lambert’s resilience ensured the preservation of its artisanal heritage. Today, the company seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, producing exquisite crystal pieces that cater to modern aesthetics.
Val Saint Lambert stands as a symbol of Belgian craftsmanship, where each piece reflects a harmonious blend of history, artistry, and innovation.
