Plate - Porcelain

A fine Chinese kraak porcelain plate from the Wanli period (1572–1620), Late Ming dynasty, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue.

The central medallion features a striking flying phoenix (Vermilion Bird) set within a landscape including bamboo and a pagoda, rendered in a lively and expressive style. The phoenix, one of the Four Sacred Creatures in Chinese mythology, symbolizes harmony, prosperity, and renewal.

The rim is divided into panels containing auspicious symbols, a typical feature of kraak porcelain produced for export. The reverse is unmarked and shows attractive kiln grid adhesions, characteristic of production in Jingdezhen kilns during this period.

Condition
No hairlines or restorations. Light rim wear and two small chips, visible in the photographs. Otherwise in good condition.
