Kashmiri illustrated prayer manuscript, titled Illustrated Prayer Manuscript, originating from Kashmir, in Arabic, circa 1780, 13 cm high by 6.25 cm wide, miniature and single page, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
A breathtaking example of a late C18th Kashmiri illuminated miniature prayer manuscript in very good condition. The manuscript dazzles with its intricate lattice of gold, cobalt blue and blush floral borders framing densely layered nasta'liq calligraphy. The text appears to render verses of Quranic supplication or devotional poetry - blessings and divine invocation. Crowning the composition is a gilded scalloped shams (sun-medallion) symbolising divine radiance and cosmic order, traditionally marking sacred openings. This is a work of exceptional refinement and spiritual attention.
This is likely to have been a travelling prayer book because of its small size which makes the condition more remarkable.
Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.
Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK.
