Silver ducat – Northern Netherlands (Republic of the Seven United Netherlands), Zeeland – 1761, Middelburg

Silver ducat struck in the province of Zeeland, minted in Middelburg, under mint master Martinus Holzhey sr. Recognizable by the mint mark of the fortress.

Very rare specimen, manufactured with medal strike and provided with a cable edge. The piece circulated for only a short time, which contributes to the sharp details and its attractive appearance.

Obverse
Knight in armor standing to the right, with the sword resting on the right shoulder and a ribbon in the left hand. At his feet a crowned shield with the Zeeland arms.

Reverse
Crowned shield of Zeeland, with a spread year notation and two stars above.
