Description from the seller

Exceptionally autographed and signed on the title page by Mitch Epstein, unique and unmatched as a signed copy in perfect condition like the copy offered here. 96 pages and 42 black-and-white photographs printed full page on recto only. Very beautiful light gray cloth binding with the title imprinted in relief in dark gray characters, illustrated dust jacket and case also illustrated. In excellent condition, practically like new.

In this black-and-white series, Mitch Epstein photographs here the monumental trees of New York. Between city and nature, in parks or on sidewalks, the trunks sometimes carved with messages, they say a great deal about the American metropolis. These images highlight the importance of trees in urban life and their complex relationship with humans. Rooted in New York sidewalks, parks and cemeteries, some trees grow in the wild, others bend to fit a cramped environment, while others are carefully pruned to become prized specimens. Despite the urban expansion that surrounds them, New York's trees continue, surprisingly, to thrive. From 2011 to 2012, Epstein explored all five boroughs of New York in search of remarkable trees, often returning to photograph the same trees across seasons and changing light. He noted that many of these trees had been planted in a specific context – a farm or a nursery, for example – and had survived to find themselves in another environment, a street or a public garden; and most will probably outlive us, witnesses to the constant evolution of their habitat. The cumulative effect of these photographs is to reverse our usual perception of the city: trees no longer serve as mere background, but dominate human life and the architecture surrounding them.

In excellent condition, practically like new, a book from my personal collection kept with the utmost care. . Protected shipping with reinforced packaging and guaranteed international tracking. For multiple purchases, there is the possibility of grouped shipping with a refund of any postage overpaid via PayPal.
